Soquel parkway now complete

SOQUEL>> As of this week, the new Heart of Soquel Parkway trail and restoration project is complete. Few are more excited than Kristin Murphy, the principal of the adjacent Soquel Elementary School.
“In addition to educational benefits, the traffic piece will be huge for us as a school,” Murphy said. “We have a very unique setting of where our school is at. Our parking lot is not the best to do a drivethru drop off and (pick up) at dismissal… this will allow families to utilize different entry points.”
A press release from the County of Santa Cruz on Thursday announced the opening of the linear park in downtown Soquel that hugs Soquel Creek. The project’s intention, staff explained, is to further connect the community to the creek, the elementary school and the preexisting Heart of Soquel Plaza.
Along with a new 8-foot-wide concrete pedestrian and bike trail that features a wooden boardwalk with views overlooking the creek, the project included riparian restoration, the removal of invasive plant species and the installation of native plants along the corridor.

The new Heart of Soquel Parkway features viewpoints with learning plaques for kids and adults to read more about the creek and what inhabits it.
